Kiku Flowers (Chrysanthemum)

Growing Kiku flowers or Chrysanthemum for an ornamental is a part of traditional culture in Japan. As with Bonsai artists, some florists are specialized in producing artistic Kiku flowers, and a number of Kiku flower festivals/competitions are held in autumn throughout Japan.

Kiku 菊 is one of the classic autumn flowers regarded as the national flower of Japan, which has been used to symbolize royalty in history. The image of Kiku flowers can be found in the seals of the Emperor's family and Shogun families, as well as the 50-yen coin.

Kiku festivals are often held at tourist spots, major temples and shrines, it gives an opportunity to see such beautiful flowers for tourists in late autumn.

Extra Info here. Kiku is a funeral flower and it is no good to gift the flower to sick persons in bed. It is also no good to gift potted flowers as laying down roots in a pot is associated with being prolonged to stay in bed.
