Bicycle Parking in Tokyo
(駐輪場 Churinjo)
Part 2 - Regular Parking
Last updated: Jun. 2025
Most bicycle parking lots near train stations are operated by that city, available for daily or regular use. The regular parking is for commuters who use their bicycles to get from home to the station, on a fixed-term contract basis. Some cities in Tokyo accept the application during a specific time, usually around February.
Parking Lot For Regular Use (Fixed Term Contract)
定期利用 (Teiki-riyou)
Regular parking (Teiki-riyou), or fixed-term parking, is a service by the city that allows parking bicycles without paying a fee for every use. Regular parking is available only for commuters who live more than 700 or 800m away from the parking lot, as parking lots near stations limit space.
The fee setting is based on such as 1-month, 3-months, 6 months, and 1 year, which can be more economical than day-use parking. A longer contract is the lesser expense by days.
For example, the bicycle parking at Nippori station in Arakawa city charges 100 JP Yen per day. (Up to 8 hours). In terms of regular parking, the rate for the city residents is 2000 Yen/month, 5400 Yen/3 months, and 10200 Yen /6 months, and a much lower fee setting is applied for students. Although a higher fee setting is applied for non-city-residents, it still can be more economical than day-use parking.
The city accepts the application of a fixed-term contract any time of the year, depending on the availability. However, in term of one year contract, some cities take the application during a specific time, usually around February, before starting the new school year of Japan in April. To get detailed information, check if your train station has a bicycle parking lot and which city the parking is located in, and then see the website.
