Haneda International Airport

Getting From International Airports to Downtown Tokyo

Tokyo has two international airports, one is Haneda International Airport located in Shinagawa in Tokyo prefecture, and other is Narita International Airport located in Narita in Chiba prefecture.

The main international airport of Tokyo is Narita International Airport, but the number of international flights departure from /arrive in Haneda Airport has increased since the airport was expanded.

Getting From Haneda International Airport to Downtown Tokyo

Haneda International Airport is close to downtown Tokyo when compared to Narita Airport. It takes approximately 35 miniatures to reach JR Tokyo Station by train (by Tokyo Monorail and JR Yamanote-sen Line). Since Haneda Airport is also a local airport for domestic flights, it is convenient to transfer when flying to other regions of Japan. What you need to aware is that there are two separate terminals in the airport area; International Terminal and Domestic Terminal, connected by a train or bus service.

There are a couple of methods of getting to downtown Tokyo from Haneda Airport.

For details, see their official web site.

Getting From Narita International Airport to Downtown Tokyo

Narita International Airport is used to be called Tokyo Narita International Airport and this is the reason people tends to think this airport is located in Tokyo - however, it isn’t. The airport is actually located Narita in Chiba prefecture. (FYI, this happens for Tokyo Disney Land which is actually located Urayasu in Chiba prefecture.) It is rather far from downtown Tokyo and it takes about 1 hour to JR Tokyo Station from Narita Airport (by Narita Express) . Please remember there are two terminals in Narita Airport too; Terminal 1 and Terminal 2.
