Kawaguchiko and Mountaineering from Mount Fuji

Kawaguchiko 河口湖 is a lake and a resort region in the Kanagawa prefecture in the central region of Honshu in Japan. The Kawaguchiko lake is famous for its views of Mount Fuji, hot springs (onsen) and ryokan's. Kawaguchiko is included in theFuji-Hakone-Izu National Park, where the central feature is Mount Fuji.

Kawaguchiko is quickly accessible from Tokyo. You can easily take day trips to Lake Kawachiko from downtown Tokyo to enjoy the serene nature, as well as enjoy fantastic views of Mount Fuji. The views of Mt. Fuji from Lake Kawaguchi are very picturesque. Kawaguchiko has a terminal rail station which is a convenience for travelers who visit the Fujigoko area or Mt. Fuji. As the most developed resort area among the five lakes, Kawaguchiko has many attractions such as art museums and lake cruises. If you are interested in climbing up Mt.Fuji, there is a mountain bus for the 5th level of Mt .Fuji available from Kawaguchiko Station. There is a TIC (Tourist Information Center) in front of the Kawaguchiko Station.

Kawaguchiko Herb Garden 河口湖ハーブ館

A herb garden by the lakeside where 150 kinds of herbs grow. Enhanced with seasonal flowers, like lavender, the fragrance of the flowers is everywhere. The views of Mt. Fuji are also very splendid. Open: 9:00 AM - 6:00 PM (18:00) Opens 365 days. Admission is Free.

Tenjou-san Ropeway (Gondola) 天上山ロープーウェイ

A great spot to enjoy a wonderful view of Mt.Fuji and Lake Kawaguchi. On a clear, sunny day the vistas are overwhelming!
Available time: 9:00 AM to 5:10 PM (17:10) . Open 365 days.
The schedule varies seasonally, but usually runs every 5 or 10 minutes. It is 10 minutes walk from Kawaguchiko Station to the Ropeway station.
Fare 800 Yen for round trip ticket.

Kawaguchiko Yuransen Cruise 河口湖 遊覧船

A 30-minute cruise with a splendid view of Mt. Fuji. The shape of Mt. Fuji is reflected on the surface of Lake Kawaguchiko which always fascinating.
Fare 930 Yen for an adult. It is a 10-minute walk from Kawaguchiko Station to the port.

Mountaineering from Mount Fuji 富士登山

From Kawaguchiko Station, you can take a mountain bus called Tozan Bus that takes you to the 5th level of Mt. Fuji. Most climbers start climbing toward the summit from this level. Remember, climbing Mt.Fuji is challenging even for experienced mountaineers. The air is thin and could cause disorientation. Be prepared and always think safety. Show respect towards Fuji-san.

The 5th level is at 2305 meters above sea level and it is high enough to enjoy a great view. The 5th level is higher than the clouds and you can see clouds spread like a carpet in the sky on the way to the 5th Level.
