Numata Matsuri Festival

One of the highlights is Tengu Mikoshi, carrying large objects of Tengu, a long-nosed goblin.

The festival takes place in Numata City. Gunma Prefecture. Numata City is on the way from central Tokyo to Minakami, a resort known for outdoor activities such as Rafting, Canyoning, and Skiing.

Getting there from central Tokyo by way of Takasaki
From JR Ueno Station, take a train bound for Takasaki to change trains (1 hr 43 min). From Takasaki, take a Joetsu Line train and get off at Numata Station (49min).

Taking a Shinkansen train between Ueno (or Tokyo) and Takasaki can be time-saving.

From Numata Station, a 15-min walk will take you to the festival place.
