Celebrating the New Year 2025, various special events will take place at the Tokyo National Museum, Ueno, Tokyo. The zodiac animal of 2025 is Hebi or snake, and collections related to snakes will be exhibited.
Daruma Doll Market at Kitain Temple | Jan. 3
Kawagoe historic district includes old merchant homes built in the traditional warehouse-style of the Edo period. Kitain, a historical temple related to the Tokugawa Shogun family, has various attractions including the numerous stone states called Gokyaku Rakan.
Oedo Antique Market at Tokyo International Forum | Jan. 5, 19, 2025
A flea market held in front of the Tokyo International Forum Building, just one minute away from JR Yurakucho Station in Ginza. Admission Free.
Maebashi New Year Market Festival | Jan. 9.
A traditional market held to sell Daruma dolls. Many stalls line along Honmachi-dori Road (Route 50) and shopping streets of central Maebashi. Traditional ceremonies will also take place on the street and at Maebashi Hachimangu Shrine.

Yama (King of the world of the dead) Festival/Market | Jan. 15 and 16
The hidden-away-from-view statue of Yama, treasured at Shoenji temple 勝専寺 in Kitasenju 北千住, is opened to the public twice a year on 15th, 16th of January and July.
Flea Market in Setagaya (Boroichi Market)

A traditional market with a history of over 400 years, more than 700 stalls will line on the streets. The marketplace is located near the Daikan-yashiki 代官屋敷, a former residential house of the local governor (Samurai house).
Tokyo Traditional Crafts Fair

The Tokyo metropolitan government will hold an exhibition in Shinjuku featuring traditional artworks made in Tokyo. Visitors can purchase the exhibits, and workshop programs will also be available to experience the extraordinary techniques handed down through generations.
