Safflower (Benibana) in Okegawa City reaches its best in mid June

Okegawa town in Saitama prefecture is known for safflower production. Okegawa is the only place where you can see safflower flowers near Tokyo.

Okegawa was once a busy post town on the old Nakasendo highway, known for its thriving safflower, or Benibana, production. Today, it is a residential city in Saitama prefecture, but you can still find historic Japanese buildings along the road. The safflower fields remain a highlight for visitors.
